Adolescent Female Mood Disorder Group
The transitional & developmental years of adolescent females can be filled with many uncertainties and circumstances that may create increased feelings of depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts and behaviors, & fear. These various changes, situations, & feelings can become so overwhelming that they lead to a Mood Disorder. Adolescent females are twice as likely to be diagnosed with a Mood Disorder as adolescent males of the same age. Mood Disorders are a product of environmental & genetic components. Environmental factors such as sudden loss, sustained stress, violence, trauma, etc. can all be precursors of a Mood Disorder. Symptoms may include social isolation, decrease in academic performance, poor eating and/ or sleep patterns, feelings of worthlessness, poor self-esteem, irritability, elevated or depressed moods, substance use, & selfharm, to name a few. While many adolescent girls may feel sad or anxious at times, those with Mood Disorders tend to experience these feelings at a more intense level for prolonged periods of time & need additional support outside of friends and family. The Behavioral Health and Wellness Academy is offering a Mood Disorder group for adolescent females from 16 to 19 years of age. Through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) each member will work towards learning self-assessment, increasing selfworth and acceptance, behavioral coping, building supportive relationships, developing effective communication strategies, and utilizing relapse prevention skills and plan. Understanding and developing appropriate skills can help reduce the severity of symptoms, better manage episodes, and help prevent future episodes.

Adult Female Trauma Focused Group
Traumatic events are experiences that are shocking, dangerous or
frightening that cause physical, emotional, spiritual and/or
psychological harm. Strong emotional reactions to trauma are
natural and common and the way these responses are expressed
may differ from person to person. Not everyone is able to move
through their trauma in a few days or weeks. Some individuals may
require more support than friends and family can offer.
The Behavioral Health and Wellness Academy is offering a Trauma
Group for women 21+ years-old. By utilizing a combination of CBT
and Third Wave CBT therapies we hope to help the group,
collectively and individually, (a) relieve shame, (b) reduce isolation,
(c) increase empowerment, (d) model healthy relationships, and (e)
promote a goal oriented mindset. The strength of young women
working together towards healing can be an empowering experience
that promotes ongoing strength and resilience. The journey to
healing does not have to be faced alone.
